Do you remember a time when mobile phone was still a luxury that could be seen only on a handful of people? There was a time when people used to showcase their mobile handsets with proud to their family members and friends. It was a thing to boast of! Compare it with today’s times.

Now mobile phones have become as common as a milk or sugar these days. One can see from our housemaids to milkman to even our local grocery man holding a mobile device in their hands. It makes you think that India has surely progressed in terms of technology!

However, with news about a new mobile being launched almost every day, the customers have been provided with too many options. This has resulted in brands eating into each other’s competition. When the plate starts to overflow the food spills out and ultimately it is the loss of the caterer only! The same might be the case in Indian cell phone market which is currently overflowing with new and old players!

Earlier the market was dominated by the international brands like Nokia, Samsung and Motorola. But as the time changed more and more Indian brands too started cropping in the Indian cell phone market like Micormax [4. %], Karbonn [3%], Spice [3.9%] etc.

As a matter of fact, in a recent V D100 Indian Telecom Survey by telecom journals Voice and Data, Indian mobile brands have a 14% of market share in the total revenue! It is a marked improvement by 3-4% as compared to the year 2009.

More than 108 million mobile handsets are sold in India on a daily basis. One can see the magnified scope of mobile companies in Indian market. However, too many of anything is bad which might be the case in the coming few years.

With so many companies launching new models of mobiles on a regular basis, the X factor value has gone missing. Everything is a replica of each other. Only good thing that comes out is the slashing down of prices when competitors try to sell similar style mobiles to the users!

Who’s going to ultimately take over control at the end? The mobile companies or the Indian cell phone market? I guess it would be the customers call finally. After all it is their hard earned money which is going into the mobile market!
