4G Cell Phones- What They Bring Into The Market?
Since the announcement came for the arrival of SPRINT HTC EVO 4G phone [released on June 4 this year], there has been an upsurge in the market about this new technology called 4G. Although 4G was in development stages back in 2008 when 3G was the latest toy in the hands of mobile carriers! And now when 4G has finally managed to arrive in your high tech cell phones, I must say it has given rest to many speculations. Still it is quite new and one cannot make claim so soon.
But 4G technology in cell phones have been clearly designed keeping in mind the faster data transmission rather than calling! In the present age when one needs to be constantly in touch with the outside world and even conduct various business affairs through the phone, a faster net access and data transmission is required. It promises high quality multimedia, voice and data transfer in real time which is a commendable thing. In fact if one compares the speed of 4G with that of 3G in mobile phones you will find that
3G- 1.4 MB per second speed
4G- 2 MB per second speed
Cell phone carriers across the world are in fact lining up to release their 4G cell phones after the recent launch of Sprint. However, speculations are rife over the emergence of 4G technology when 3G technology is still being on top list of many mobile carriers as well as customers. The point in question here is there really a need of 4G mobile phones when 3G phones are offering decent enough speed and data transmission services? If one goes by the current market trends, one will find a remarkable shift in the preference of mobile users. It is more inclined towards connectivity and affordability rather than quality which were the earlier issues.
A 3G mobile phone forms 50% of the preference of the customers with the rest being formed of 2.5 technology phones. One more odd against 4G technology is the lack of clearly defined standards. Now let’s witness the other side of the coin!
According to a survey by ABI research the demand for phones like Iphone, Blackberry & Treo [which are known for their web access facility] will go up in demand to 31% by 2013. Notably this demand was only a meager 10% in 2007. This upswing in demand can be owed to the rising globalization.
With 4G mobile phones you would get
• High definition viewing experience
• Video conferencing
• Multiplayer video game playing
• Faster data access
• Connectivity within 6 mils [WIMAX]
4G technology is currently available through LTE i.e. Long Term Evolution [endorsed by AT & T, T-mobile and Verizon] and WIMAX [Sprint].
The current market situation speculates a high scope for 4G mobile phones in the near future with 4G wireless technology creating ripples in the laptop market through its USB devices. The success of SPRINT HTC EVO 4G will surely pave way for more such phones. Verizon is gearing up to launch its own 4G enabled phone soon followed closely by LG.
AT& T and T-mobile on the other hand are still tapping on their 3G enabled mobile phones.
Although it might take some time to kick start but 4G phones are here to stay!
