Verizon will start selling the Motorola Droid from Nov. 6 onwards for $199.99. The phone would be available with a 2 year contract. The pricing of the Droid is very competitive and is equal to that of the iPhone’s basic model.

Motorola Droid enjoys a strong backing of Google, as the Droid is the first phone to run on Android 2.0 the latest version of Google’s Android operating system.

The Android operating system by Google is an open platform which can be customized my any developer giving Motorola Droid Apps that edge over any other phone in the market. The Motorola Droid Apps will contain a free Google application known as Google Maps Navigation, which currently works only on devices which are running on the Android 2.0 operating system.

Google Maps application has the functionality to call turn by turn directions, while providing visual guides such as high resolution photographs of streets & satellite imagery.
